Joining Hands Cameroon is a nonprofit organization. It was founded in 2021 with its headquarters in Bamenda, located in the Northwest Region of Cameroon (NWR-Cameroon). The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Founder of Joining Hands Cameroon is Enoch. N. Njobati. He started this initiative out of very personal experiences:

“I grew up in Memfu, a village close to Kumbo. I remember my childhood as very happy and satisfying. Despite the challenges that most countries of the sub-Saharan Africa face like lack of clean water, access to quality education, inefficient electricity, poor roads in villages to name a few. These problems reached its apex with the rise of the Anglophone crisis in the English-speaking regions of Cameroon. Memfu village being one of the most affected villages.

There are constant gunshots between the Cameroonian military and the restoration forces “Amba boys” in Memfu village. That is why my father fled from this village in 2019 amid gun shots to seek for refuge in Bamenda, the head quarter of NWR-Cameroon. The 80-year-old man needed to escape in horrific circumstances. The images of shot holes on the walls of his living room as well as seeing other houses being burnt down are till today very vivid on his mind.

About two months after my father’s narrow escape, my sister had to flee with her husband and three kids to seek for refuge in Bamenda. While in Bamenda, Marcel, my brother-in-law, was shot dead early in the morning on his way to church. These are just a few examples out of thousands of people who have lost their lives in Cameroon because of the Anglophone crises.

With much grief in my heart, I see the once joyful village, today full of orphans, widows and widowers as their husbands, wives and parents are killed because of the Anglophone crisis. It leaves in me the initiative of founding Joining Hands Cameroon as a joint urgent action from people of good hearts to give a perspective and bright future to the Memfu community and to the affected persons in Anglophone Cameroon. To realize this, we work hand in glove with the sustainable development goals to create more impact to the global world at the local level, a win-win for the environment and its inhabitants.
